Coming off a double podium at the Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, Arie Luyendyk Jr. looks to strike gold at X Games Austin. He will race a GUNK-sponsored truck, with additional support from Liquid Wrench (in photo, from a previous race).
Two heat races of ten trucks each will race at 12 p.m. EDT Sunday live on ESPN. The first eight finishers in each race will transfer to the final, which will feature a total of 16 trucks. The broadcast of the final medal race will begin at 2 p.m. EDT on ABC, with the green flag falling at 2:20 p.m.
This marks the first time in history that a Formula Off-Road race will be featured in a live network television broadcast.
"Can you believe that we're here at X Games?" Luyendyk said, "What an amazing opportunity, with 184 countries tuning in to watch us run for gold! It feels great to be back in the GUNK livery and to share this experience with them. It's going to be important to race clean in the heats, so we can advance to final. The best of the best are here. Time to raise the game for tomorrow!"
