Indianapolis, Ind. (Pre-Race) - After a long six week hiatus from the drag strip, Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck, is ready to get to Indianapolis Raceway Park for the running of the 46th Annual NHRA US Nationals.
"I'm ready to go to Indy," said Whisnant. "Even though it has only been six weeks, and it feels like we have been off forever. I am ready to get back to the racetrack and see how we stack up against everyone else."
Although the Pro Stock Truck class has not raced in six weeks, that does not mean the Whisnant has been idle. During the break in competition, the RW Performance team has taken advantage of their time off to test, tune, and freshen their power plants.
"We have done a lot of testing in the last six weeks. We took the opportunity to try a lot of new stuff. Some of the things we tried worked, and some did not, but that is what testing is all about. We also sent our engines back to be freshened and service, and have completely gone through the truck to make everything right. We want to be ready to race when we get to Indy and be prepared for the rest of the season.
"We have done a lot of work, but we know that everyone we race against has been doing the same thing. This is a tough class, and if you don't keep up the other guys will push you out of the way.
"I am excited to be going to the US Nationals, and anxious to get back in the truck. Indy is the biggest race of the year, and we would like to do well there.
"We where running good coming off of the race in St. Louis. We did well there and would like to bring that momentum with his to Indy. There will be a lot of trucks trying to qualify in Indy, but I feel like we have a good chance of taking one of those 16 qualifying spots.
"We have done our homework, spent the time testing, now I just want to get there and get racing."
The first round of Pro Stock Truck qualifying begins on Friday September 1. Rounds 2 and 3 will take place on Saturday September 2, and finishing with Rounds 4 and 5 on Sunday September 3. Eliminations at the 46th Annual NHRA US Nationals take place on Monday September 4 at 11:00 AM EST.
