HOUSTON (April 10) - Larry Dixon has one advantage over the rest of the top fuel field for this weekend's 13th Annual O'Reilly Nationals, and his name is Dick LaHaie.

LaHaie is responsible for tuning both of the winning cars at both NHRA events at Houston Raceway Park last season-first with Doug Herbert at the 12th Annual O'Reilly Nationals (April 11, 1999) -then a second time with Dixon at the Matco Tools Supernationals (Oct. 31, 1999) after having joined the Snake Racing Team just three events earlier in Topeka. And as if that weren't enough to get the driver of the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Dragster excited, he will always remember April 9, 1999, the date he became the first driver in NHRA history to surpass the 4.5 second barrier with his earth shattering lap of 4.486 seconds during the Friday night qualifying session. “It is really nice going back to Houston,” said Dixon. “We have had a lot of nice things happen to us there lately, so it would be great to keep that streak going and with Dicko on our side, we have a great chance to see that happen.” “This next race really marks the start of our season,” Dixon explained. “We have had a few races already, but we have had several weeks off in between. So I feel like the season hasn't really gotten going yet. Now, we are hitting it. In the next month and a half we are going to have a third of our season over with. Being able to get back in the car in three or four days, I am ready for it. Dicko is getting a handle on the car and I am getting a better feel for driving it. We have a really strong car and a strong team. I am feeling as good about things right now as I did in 1995 (when the Miller Genuine Draft Dragster won four events and Dixon was named NHRA Rookie of the Year). We had a great car that year and I just felt fortunate to be driving it. But there has been such a big span of time since then and now that it really makes me appreciate how things are going for us that much more.” “This year I can see everything as it is happening and I wouldn't be surprised if it all came together and turned out to be something great for us this year.”

Snake Bites Don “The Snake” Prudhomme has visited Winner's Circle twice at Houston Raceway Park. His first came in his final season as a top fuel driver during the 1994 Final Strike Tour. His next win came as Dixon's team owner last season.
