WORSHAM LEADS THREE OF FOUR TOP FUEL SESSIONS WILL START SECOND AT TOPEKA
TOPEKA, Kansas – Del Worsham topped three of the weekend’s four Top Fuel qualifying sessions to earn the number two spot for eliminations in Sunday’s NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, Kansas.
Worsham earned nine bonus points in qualifying, but more importantly, led each of the weekend’s three sessions run during the day-time in conditions similar to what is expected on race day. The long-time Funny Car driver turned Top Fueler will be looking for his fourth win of the season tomorrow. Worsham’s Al-Anabi Toyota teammate Larry Dixon will start third on Sunday and was the second-quickest in three different sessions to earn six bonus points. The 2010 Top Fuel champion has qualified in the top four in each of the season’s first seven races.
Shawn Langdon also turned in an excellent performance with a fifth – matching his previous season best at Pomona where he advanced to the finals. Atlanta winner Antron Brown registered the ninth-quickest time, while Morgan Lucas will start 11th.
In Funny Car competition, Cruz Pedregon continued to shine with his 17th consecutive top-six in qualifying as he placed fifth overall. The two-time Funny Car champ was the fastest qualifier in two sessions this weekend. In addition, he was the only Funny Car driver to break into the 4.0s during any of the day-time sessions, registering the feat twice with a 4.08 on Friday afternoon and a 4.072 on Saturday.
Worsham, Brown and Dixon enter tomorrow’s eliminations occupying the top three spots in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Top Fuel point race, while Pedregon begins Sunday’s action in fourth-place in Funny Car.
