PEDREGON LEADS TOYOTA IN HOUSTON NHRA QUALIFYING
DIXON FOURTH IN TOP FUEL
TORRANCE, Calif. (April 30, 2011) – Cruz Pedregon registered the fastest Funny Car qualifying run of the day on Saturday to qualify third overall for Sunday’s NHRA O’Reilly Auto Parts Nationals at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas, outside of Houston.
Pedregon extended his phenomenal qualifying streak of qualifying in the top six to 15 races – 10 more than the next longest active streak. To date this season, he’s qualified first, second, fifth, third and third in four races for an average position of 2.8. He will be matched up against Bob Bode in the first round of Sunday’s eliminations.
In Top Fuel competition, Larry Dixon led the five Toyota-sponsored dragsters with a fourth overall. While struggling somewhat on Saturday, Dixon ran second and third in Friday’s two qualifying runs to earn three bonus points for the weekend. He has already earned 29 bonus points in qualifying this season.
Antron Brown was right behind Dixon in fifth, followed by Del Worsham in sixth and Morgan Lucas in the ninth position. Lucas ran the third-quickest pass in both Friday’s first session and Saturday’s final session to earn two bonus points.
Shawn Langdon had one of the top passes in the final round of qualifying and appeared to be solidly in the show. Unfortunately, Langdon oiled down the track in the shutdown area, which resulted in having his time withdrawn which knocked him out of the field.
Worsham, Dixon and Brown enter tomorrow’s eliminations occupying the top three spots in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Top Fuel point race.
