WORSHAM’S SECOND LEADS TOYOTA IN ATLANTA NHRA QUALIFYING
TORRANCE, Calif. – Del Worsham kept up his torrid pace in NHRA Top Fuel competition, qualifying second to lead Toyota in preparation for Sunday’s NHRA Summit Racing Equipment Southern Nationals at the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.
Worsham, the series point leader, has won three of the first five races of the season. He earned three additional bonus points in leading Friday’s first qualifying session.
After being unable to complete a clean run on Friday, Worsham’s Al-Anabi Racing teammate Larry Dixon ran the quickest pass of Saturday’s first session to gain three bonus points of his own and place him safely in the field in fourth.
Antron Brown qualified seventh, while Morgan Lucas Racing teammates Morgan Lucas and Shawn Langdon placed 13th and 15th. Four of the five Toyota-sponsored Top Fuel drivers will square off against one another in the opening round of eliminations on Sunday with Worsham taking on Langdon and Dixon matching up with Lucas.
In Funny Car competition, Cruz Pedregon extended his phenomenal streak of qualifying in the top six to 16 races – 10 more than the next longest active streak – with a fourth today. To date this season, he’s qualified first, second, fifth, third, third and fourth in six races for an average qualifying position of third – the best in the series. He will be matched up against his brother, Tony Pedregon, in the first round of Sunday’s eliminations.
Worsham, Dixon and Brown enter tomorrow’s eliminations occupying the top three spots in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Top Fuel point race.
