Thomas Bayer Captures Two NHRA® Division 7 Class Championships in 2006 on Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks
CYPRESS, CALIFORNIA -- Capping off a remarkable season of drag racing, Thomas Bayer of Thomas Bayer Racing won both the Super Gas and Super Comp Championships for 2006 in NHRA® Division 7 while running on Proxes Drag Slicks from Toyo Tires®. Before the final race at The Strip in Las Vegas, Bayer led the Super Comp points with his Lucas Oil / Toyo Tires® Super Comp dragster over 212 other Division 7 competitors. In addition, Bayer entered the final race second in Super Gas driving his Toyo Tires® / Lucas Oil / K&N sponsored 1962 Corvette against 229 racers in that class.
Bayer's double-championship success is a result of a combination of winning elements such as great driving, expert race car preparation and fast, consistent tires. Hailing from Fontana, California, Bayer demonstrated his winning skills earlier in the season with a Divisional Win at Fontana, immediately followed by winning both Super Comp and Super Gas finals during Race #4 of the NHRA® Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Woodburn Dragstrip in Oregon.
According to Thomas Bayer, "This is the most exciting time of my entire racing career, being able to win two championships in one season. I have raced on Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks for several years, and they have helped to deliver several championships during that time." In addition to Bayer's most recent championship, he won the Super Comp Association of Southern California Championship in 2004 and the SCEDA Championship in 2005, both on Proxes Drag Slicks.
Toyo Proxes Drag Slicks are heralded by racers for their consistency, durability and ability to win races. In addition to Thomas Bayer's double championship win for 2006, Proxes Drag Slicks were on the '41 Willys of Steve Johnson, recent winner of the 2006 Super Gas Championship at Bandimere Speedway in Colorado. In addition, Proxes Drag Slicks scored a recent NHRA® National Super Gas event victory with Bob Harris, Jr. piloting his 2000 Corvette.
