TOPEKA, Kansas, May 23, 2001-World Wrestling Federation drivers, Jerry Toliver and Tony Bartone, are anxious to return to Heartland Park Topeka this weekend for the Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nationals May 24-27, 2001.
"Toliver Racing did very well at this event last year, I made it to the semi-finals and my second car made it to the quarterfinals. This track is very fast and with the Funny Car showing last weekend in Englishtown, we should expect to see some exceptional times in Topeka," said Toliver, driver of the XFL Pontiac Firebird.
This particular event holds sentimental value for Toliver, not only as a member of the National Hot Rod Association, but also as the nephew of the legendary drag racer Art Chrisman. Recognized as a member of the Top 50 drag racers, Chrisman recorded history when his was the first car to go down the quarter-mile drag strip at the first NHRA national event in Great Bend, Kansas. In addition, Chrisman was the first drag racer to drive over 140 and 180 miles an hour.
Bartone is equally excited about returning to Topeka. "The last time I competed at Heartland Park Topeka was in 1996, that was the year I won the World Championship in Alcohol Funny Car. I am anxious to return and see if I can record my first Nitro Funny Car victory since moving up to the professional level," said Bartone, driver of the recently debuted Triple H Pontiac Firebird.
Triple H, Stephanie McMahon-Helmsley and Toliver Racing debuted the Triple H paint scheme at the Matco Tools Spring SuperNationals in Englishtown, New Jersey Friday, May 18, 2001. The complete unveiling of the Triple H Funny Car will be televised on TNN Sunday, May 27, at 10:00 a.m. (ET).
Toliver Racing is in its fourth season of competition in the NHRA Drag Racing Series in 2001. Toliver Racing has six wins to its credit as well as a third and fifth place finish in the 2000 season points championship. The Toliver Racing prepared WWF/XFL and RAW IS WAR/Triple H Pontiac Firebirds will be driven by Jerry Toliver and Tony Bartone, respectively. k _TR
