Howard still looking to turn season around.
TOPEKA, Kan. - One year ago, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Shelly Howard was on top of the drag racing world after winning her second career national event in Topeka last year. This year, Howard has been plagued by severe tireshake at every event she has attended. Heading into this weekend's O'Reilly Summer Nationals presented by Castrol at Heartland Park in Topeka, Howard and her team hope to turn things around for the better.
Howard, a registered nurse from Tulsa, Okla., and her team will take a 'never give up' attitude going into this weekend's race.
"The only way we are going to figure out what this new car wants is runs down the track," said Howard. "Our tuner Tom Conway has been trying new things to try to see what this car wants. We had some bad luck coupled with more tireshake down in Baton Rouge last weekend that kept us from running our potential. We tried new things, but with it being such a marginal track down there, it's really hard to learn anything from it going into a good track like Topeka."
"We ran really well here last year," Howard added. "I wish we had the luxury of just going back to what worked last year, but unfortunately we don't with the new car. We'll just take it one run at a time and do the best we can do."
Qualifying begins on Friday with two sessions, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations will start Saturday afternoon with round one, and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
