TOPEKA, KS (May 21, 2001) --- It's been two months since Paul Romine and the CARQUEST Auto Parts Top Fuel team competed in an NHRA Winston Drag Racing event, but they will return to action, May 25-27 at the Advance NHRA Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka in Topeka, KS.

"Our first two NHRA appearances (at Phoenix and Gainesville) were less than stellar, but our new team has been working out our IHRA combination," said Romine, who drives his Doug Herbert-owned CARQUEST dragster in IHRA competition. "Unlike NHRA, the rules in the other sanctioning body limit us to 25 over on the supercharger and my new tuner Mike McLaughlin had never tuned with a supercharger limit. Now he's getting a handle on the tune-up, things are starting to come around."

A few weeks ago at an event in Richmond, VA, Romine and the CARQUEST team turned in their best pass of the season with a 4.71 elapsed time, en-route to their second IHRA win of the year. The team will be looking to better their e.t.'s and mile-per-hour at Heartland Park, a track known for performance.

"We're using Topeka to test our combination for IHRA, but we also want to win," said Romine, a three-time and the defending IHRA Top Fuel Champion. "Both myself, Bruce Litton and Clay Millican run the other series, but we like NHRA because it gives us perfect track conditions to test and also possibly go some rounds. With Doug's team helping out at Heartland Park, we hope to also help him, but also get this CARQUEST team into the later rounds of an NHRA event."
