FULLER RACES CATERPILLAR RAIL TO NO. 3 SPOT AT TOPEKA

TOPEKA, Kan. (May 31, 2008) -- Rod Fuller cruised his David Powers-owned Caterpillar dragster to the No. 3 qualifying position Saturday afternoon at Heartland Park Topeka. Flying the colors of Martin Tractor, Foley Equipment and Warren Cat, Fuller's quickest qualifying attempt came on Friday evening with a run of 4.565 seconds.

After racing the Caterpillar-backed rail to the provisional No. 3 qualifying position with a run of 4.565 seconds on Friday evening, the seven-time Top Fuel winner raced his Caterpillar/Valvoline rail to a run of 4.735 seconds at 301.21 mph on Saturday's first qualifying attempt. The Caterpillar rail dropped a cylinder on the run. Fuller clocked a run of 5.101 at 204.54 after shutting off early on his final qualifying attempt to finish third in the 16-car order. It is the 10th time in his career that Fuller has qualified third. He also has qualified for 70 consecutive races, the second longest streak in Top Fuel (Tony Schumacher).

"We had the second quickest pass in the heat here this weekend," Fuller said. "We used today as a test day to try some things. With the new nitro rules, we now have to test at the track. We have a great setup for the CAT car. We'll put what we know in the car for tomorrow and hope to get not only that first round win at Topeka, but also a race win for Martin, Foley and Warren."

The three-time Topeka race winner will face off against No. 14 qualifier Morgan Lucas in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations at 11 a.m. (CT) on Sunday. Fuller and Lucas have yet to meet during eliminations this season. In six career head-to-head matches, Fuller holds a 4-2 edge over Lucas.
