Topeka, Kan. (Sept. 30) - Today in eliminations at the 12th Annual Advance Auto Parts NHRA Nationals, Brian "Lump" Self would make it to the second round before falling to David Spitzer.

In Round 1 Lump used a hole-shot to defeated Greg Stanfield. It was Lump's .408 of a second reaction time that spelled victory for Self. Self won with a run of 7.681 / 174.19 mph to Stanfield's quicker 7.626/176.56 mph.

"I knew I would have to get Greg on the tree to get past him," said Self. "I knew he had me covered on ET, so I had to take a shot at him. I worked out for me that time."

In Round 2, Self was paired against David Spitzer. Although, once again Self would have the quicker reaction time, it would not be enough to defeat Spitzer. Spitzer would run a 7.652 / 174.87 mph to Self's 7.699 / 174.60 mph.

"As bad as we struggled this weekend, I am tickled to get to the second round. And the only thing that we got us to the second round was with my right foot. We had a couple of problems with the truck this weekend. We were here late last night changing the heads. The truck will not run in the back half, but we are fixing to cure that problem.

"We are going to stay here in Topeka and test tomorrow, and then on Tuesday we are going to St. Louis and do some more testing. We need to try and find our problem. I know that it is not in the motor. There is something wrong with the truck and the only way we are going to find it is with track time.

"I am confident that we will find the problem before we get to Memphis. The when we get to Memphis we will be ready to kick some hind-end."=20
