Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac Driver Makes Third Start of Season

TOPEKA, Kansas, June 2, 2007 -- Justin Humphreys is takings things one step at a time, and he likes the progress he's making. Humphreys' 6.768-second run at 203.95 mph Saturday lifted him into the No. 14 starting slot for Sunday's O'Reilly Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka.

"Our tune-up was too soft Saturday, but we'll take it," said Humphreys, who is an NHRA Pro Stock newcomer this year. "We fought some track issues Friday night (when he ran 6.805 seconds at 203.52) after the car made a hard right-hand move just off the startingline."

The second run gave crew chief Eric Luzinski an opportunity to tune the car for Saturday's sessions and the car responded with 6.678 and 6.791-second runs on a tricky racing surface.

Humphreys qualified 16th in his first race and 15th in his second one. He squares off against Allen Johnson (No. 3, 6.724 at 204.82 mph) in the opening round.
