During the third session John and his Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10 took on the right lane. He launched from the starting line and the rear of the Chevy S-10 moved up and down before hooking up with the track. John ran a 7.586 at 177.81 mph. The run was not an improvement and he slipped one spot to the No. 11 position.
"We put a new engine between the frame rails after we hurt our primary engine during the second qualifying session last night. We are in the show and our focused has switched to tuning the new engine for raceday," said John.
Mike Coughlin ran a 7.538 at 178.24 mph behind his older brother John. The run was also not an improvement. Mike ended up in the No. 13 spot by the time the third session was completed.
"We are spending our time making adjustments that will help both of the Jeg's Chevy S-10's on raceday. After the third qualifying session the field is pretty much set for raceday and the conditions will be very close to what we will deal with on raceday," explained Mike.
During the final session John left the starting line beams and the rear end moved around again. After the chassis calmed down the Chevy S-10 took off. John ran a 7.608 at 177.09 mph, the run was not an improvement. He remained in the No. 11 position for raceday.
"The most important thing about this weekend so far is that we qualified for raceday. By doing that it put me firmly into the Pro Stock Truck Holley Dominator Duel that will be held next weekend at the race in Chicago. Now Team Jeg's can focus of winning in the Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10 tomorrow on raceday," said John.
Mike ran into problems during the final session and shut off. He stayed in the No. 13 spot.
"We really needed to make the run in the final session. The conditions that we had will be a lot like what we will face on raceday. All is not lost because we have the data from John's run and that is another example of the benefit of having a two truck team," commented Mike.
In the opening round Mike Coughlin and his Jeg's machine will face off against Todd Patterson. The match up will pit a Chevy S-10 against a Dodge RT and lane choice will go to Patterson.
John Coughlin and his Jeg's Mail Order Chevy S-10 will line up next to Jeff Gracia. Gracia will have lane choice when the Chevy S-10 and GMC Sonoma meet in round one.
