TOPEKA, Kan. (May 23, 2006) -- Jason Line, 36, who drives the Summit Racing Equipment Pontiac for KB Racing LLC, looks to pick up the pace at Topeka and this weekend's NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals, as the Pro Stock class heads into the summer heat.
"The driver faltered at Columbus (Ohio)," recalled Line, as he looked back to the last race. "I lost the race at Christmas Tree (starting lights). You can't do that and expect to win. I need to step up the pace here this weekend."
Although he has never won here in two tries at Heartland Park Topeka, Line is looking forward to both the race itself and notching his first Pro Stock win here in the capital city of Kansas. He advanced to the semifinals here last year before losing to teammate Greg Anderson, who went on to win the event.
"I look forward to Topeka," said Line, who was born in Wright, Minn. and current lives in Terrell, N.C. "This was always a fun track for me when I was driving my stocker in Division 3. The folks at Heartland Park Topeka always have put on a good show.
"To win here in Pro Stock you got to be on top of your game each and every round during eliminations. There are a lot of great drivers in this (Pro Stock) class and if you let up just a bit, it will bite you and you're headed back to the shop.
"While I can't predict a win, I plan to do everything I can to be focus and drive my Summit Pontiac to the winner's circle."
Entering qualifying for the NHRA O'Reilly Summer Nationals, Line holds the No. 2 position in the NHRA POWERade Pro Stock point standings with 527 points. He is just 30 points behind his teammate Greg Anderson, who is No. 1 in the standings.
Qualifying for Line and his KB Racing LLC/Summit Racing Equipment Pro Stock Pontiac GTO begins with two Pro Stock sessions on Friday, May 26, scheduled for 4:30 and 7:30 p.m. and concludes with two additional Pro Stock sessions on Saturday, May 27, at 12 noon and 2:30 p.m. Line begins his quest for the O'Reilly Summer Nationals Pro Stock title on Sunday, May 28, with eliminations for all classes beginning at 11 a.m. All times are local Topeka time (CT) and subject to change at anytime.
