Herbert seeking a turn around in performance and consistency in Topeka
TOPEKA, pre-race: With one third of the 2006 POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule in the record books, the NHRA tour enters the dog days of summer beginning this weekend at the O'Reilly NHRA Summer Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka. Doug Herbert and the crew of the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster will be on a mission to return to their winning form at the beautiful Midwestern facility, located an hour west of Kansas City.
Herbert heads to the Summer Nationals in the Top Ten of the NHRA Top Fuel point's standings and a strong performance at Heartland Park will help the team build momentum heading into the heart of the 23-race schedule. "Dougzilla' comes into the event after enduring a mediocre showing at the previous race in Ohio, but the team gained valuable information in relation to the performance of the Snap-on Tools dragster.
"Despite our struggles in Columbus, we made some changes to the Snap-on dragster that I feel will aid us in making the car faster and more consistent," Herbert said. "The car really responded well to the changes that crew chief Wayne Dupuy implemented and though we still have a few slight problems to sort out I feel we are definitely on the right track."
Herbert has enjoyed success at the state-of-the-art Kansas facility in the past with a victory in 1999 after defeating friend and former driver, Joe Amato. If Herbert can repeat his 1999 performance and find the winner's circle again at Topeka, it could prove to be a catalyst to the beginning of a strong return to the Snap-on team's winning ways.
