His recent visit to the Formula 1 event in his hometown of Indianapolis got his racing juices flowing, but not in the way you would expect. Rather than wanting to take a lap in a Ferrari or Mercedes, Dixon just thought about how much he enjoys driving Don Prudhomme's Miller Lite Dragster down the NHRA's quarter mile tracks.

“Seeing the Formula 1 cars at Indy was great, but it definitely made me thankful for what I do for a living as opposed to the F1 guys,” said Dixon. “The interaction for the fans is much better at an NHRA event. While the NHRA guys all hang out and associate much more with the fans, the F1 guys seem to be a lot more secluded and don't really get out that much for whatever reason. It made me realize that I really like what we do. Also, the sheer power and noise that the NHRA cars make is ground-pounding and you don't get that at an F1 race.”

And ground-pounding is exactly what Dixon and crew chief Dick LaHaie need to do this weekend at the 12th Annual Advance Auto Parts Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka (Sept. 28-Oct. 1).

Having never advanced past the second round in eight previous trips to the State of Kansas, Dixon will look to LaHaie to help him continue in the Winston Top Fuel points chase. “Having Dick on board definitely can't hurt us,” said Dixon. “Even with his success, he's not going to approach this race any differently that any of the others. He just gets the car down the track every time. We've had inconsistent performances here in the past for a number of reasons, but those are the same reasons why we should do well with Dick on our team.” this year.”
