Cruz Pedregon Heads To Heartland Park Topeka With History On His Side
Topeka, Kan., May 25, 2004 - In just 16 races into his prosperous Funny Car career, former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon had already accumulated five event wins. His fifth win came at Heartland Park Topeka in 1992. The California native won again in 1994 and swept both races in 1995. His impressive resume now includes 22 career wins. This weekend the NHRA POWERade tour heads back to Heartland Park for the NHRA Summer Nationals in Topeka, Kansas and the Advance Auto Parts racing team will look to add to the win column when racing begins on Friday.
"I've always enjoyed going to Topeka," said Pedregon. "It's one of the best tracks we race at and I've had some great success there. It's Memorial Day weekend and we get a lot of great fans that take time out of their extended weekend to come watch our sport. We're looking forward to heading back there and seeing if we can't pull off a victory. "
To add to his successful outings at Topeka, Pedregon earned runner up honors in 1994 and '96. He also advanced to the semifinals in 1993, '96, '98 and at the event last season. He earned the top-qualifier award in 1998, set low E.T. of the event in 1992 and '98 and set top-speed of the event in 1995 and '96.
