Young Australian Top Fuel Drag Racer heads for Heartland Park.
Nineteen year-old Australian Top Fuel Dragster driver, Andrew Cowin will be competing at the 11th Annual Parts America Nationals this weekend.
After competing in only six NHRA events this year, 19 year-old Andrew Cowin from Sydney Australia will again be taking on the big guns of the sport. Andrew and the All Australian team of the K&N/Auto Meter Top Fuel Dragster have generated considerable interest amongst racers, media and fans since going to the finals of the U.S. Nationals.
Andrew had one round win to his credit before entering the famous race and qualified No. 16 before eliminating No. 1 qualifier Joe Amato in round one. Randy Parks and Bob Vandergriff Jr. were also on the losing ends of their race with the Aussies.
"We would have been happy to qualify, but to go to the finals against Cory was unbelievable" a proud Andrew commented.
"Racing at this level totally absorbs you, we ran consistently and I kept waiting for someone to pinch me and wake me up from my dream"
Andrew emulated the feat of his father, team owner and crew chief, Graeme in reaching the finals of an NHRA event, Graeme having made it to the final round of Funny Car at the 1987 Winternationals in Pomona California.
The team is All-Australian and is headed by Andrew's father Graeme, assistant Crew Chief, Shane Place, Andrew's Twin Brother John, and new recruits Robert Schwab, Mathew Leonard.
The team has a tradition of record setting, Andrew was the youngest and quickest licensed Top Fuel racer in the world outside North America, became the first All-Australian team into the 4.70, 4.60 and 300 MPH brackets, and became one of only four international drivers to reach the finals of an NHRA professional category.
On home soil, with Graeme driving, set dozens of track and national records, Graeme was the first Funny Car racer in to the five second zone outside North America, became the first Top Fuel racer into the five second zone, the first into the 4.80s to name a few.
Andrew and the K&N/Auto Meter team will be at Heartland park this weekend, come out say hello and "Feel The Power In The Air"
