Indianapolis Pre-race: Life has a way of coming full circle, once again this is exhibited in the Gillig Motorsports family racing team. Twenty years ago at the age of 9, Tony Gillig attended his first NHRA National event, the 25th Annual US Nationals. While there he was able to meet his hero, Pro Stock legend Bob. From that moment on Tony wanted to drive a Pro Stock car. Over the years Tony & Dad Bob have ventured back to Indy as spectators, this trip Tony's dream will be realized as a second-generation participant.
"Indy's always been a favorite track of mine. My Dad raced there in the early 80's in NHRA Sportsman E-Gas. I learned a lot from my Dad in those days. I never understood how he kept so calm and collected when he was beat by another racer. I use to go nuts. I was taught good sportsmanship and how to enjoy this sport".
On a 3 race-qualifying streak Gillig heads into Indianapolis with his Wayne's Pizza, Shanahan Dry Wall Services red and white Olds in hopes of qualifying for his fourth straight. "We've been sneaking up on the clutch, car, & engine tune up that has us steadily improved our performance for the last 3 races. Even though we've qualified we haven't been picture perfect. Based on what we have learned recently we should be qualifying better than we have." "Thankfully our carburetor problems are over. We sure would like to qualify deeper into the pack. The ever stable tag team of Warren and Kurt Johnson's 1-2 punch has about warn me out." Quips Gillig. "The US Nationals is an awesome event, this is my first time here as a participant, I'm pumped!"
