There should be some parity in the Pro Stock ranks at the upcoming Summit Racing.com Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada. "Going into an inaugural event gives you the feeling no one has an advantage with a log book three feet thick from the last 10 years," said Tony Gillig, driver of the Wayne's Pizza, Shanahan Drywall, Oldsmobile Cutlass.
Having run very well in Gainesville, Fl. just three weeks ago, Team Gillig feels they can run just as well as they did at the prior event. "We do not have a wealth of data from similar tracks with a higher elevation, however, we have done our homework and feel we are ready for the 'STRIP' in Las Vegas. We attended the Winston Showdown in Bristol, TN in 1999 and learned a few things about running in not so optimum conditions. We have performed very well in the past, racing on tracks that are a little 'green' so to speak and hopefully we can parley that into a solid qualifying effort for the Las Vegas fans." Gillig stated.
The Las Vegas facility is going to be a great addition to the many incredible venues on the NHRA tour. "We are excited about being part of another great piece of drag racing history. The last inaugural events we attended we're Brainerd, MN and Atlanta, GA in 1981 when my Dad raced Modified Eliminator. Needless to say we are looking forward to qualifying on Friday afternoon," said Gillig
Gillig is off to a much better start in his sophomore season and hopes to be a solid contender at every event on the NHRA Winston Drag Racing Tour very soon.
