Force, Densham, Castrol among Car Craft All-Star Finalists.
LOS ANGELES, Calif. For the 12th consecutive year, John Force and Crew Chief Austin Coil are among the finalists for the Car Craft Magazine All-Star Drag Racing Team which annually recognizes the top talent the sport.
Also among the other Funny Car finalists are Bernie Fedderly, Coil's battery mate on the Force-driven Castrol GTX Ford Mustang, Gary Densham, driver of the Team Castrol/Automobile Club of Southern California Ford Mustang, and Jimmy Prock, Crew Chief on the Auto Club Ford.
Castrol is a finalist for the Fuel Racing Sponsor position on the All-Star team, the members of which will be revealed and honored during the 35th annual Car Craft Magazine All-Star Banquet, Aug. 31, at the Indianapolis Downtown Marriott.
Force and Coil have been voted onto the last 11 teams as Funny Car Driver and Funny Car Crew Chief, respectively. Fedderly has been the co-honoree, with Coil, every year since 1992.
In addition to Force and Densham, the Funny Car driver finalists are Whit Bazemore, who finished second to Force in the 2001 driver standings, and Del Worsham, who finished third.
The Funny Car Crew Chief finalists, in addition to Coil/Fedderly and Prock, are Lee Beard and the combination of Chuck Worsham and Rob Flynn. Flynn is recognized for his work with the Worsham team even though he now is in the employ of Don "the Snake" Prudhomme.
"To be a finalist for the Car Craft All-Star team is just something I never thought would happen," said Densham, who last year won the first two races of his career while driving the third of the Team Castrol Mustangs. "To be included with drivers like John Force, Whit Bazemore and Del Worsham is really all good. To have the fans and the writers and the racers include me in that group, it's unbelievable.
"To me, it's probably more surprising and more of an honor than leading the (POWERade) points."
"It's always an honor just to be a finalist," Force said, "because it's the readers (of Car Craft Magazine, National Dragster and Drag Review) that vote on it. It's good company to be there with ol' Densham, Baze and the kid (Worsham). That's a lot of talent."
In the Fuel Racing Sponsor category, Castrol is a finalist along with Budweiser and Mac Tools. Castrol is the primary sponsor of Force's Castrol GTX Ford and Tony Pedregon's Castrol SYNTEC Ford and a major sponsor of Densham's Auto Club Ford.
