This Week in Ford Racing
September 15, 2009
Bob Tasca III, driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Ford Shelby Mustang, has a big weekend ahead of him. Tasca currently sits in fourth place heading into the Countdown to 1 and is also set to unveil the JDRF-themed Motorcraft/Quick Lane Funny Car during the grand opening of the new Tasca Racing shop in Concord, N.C., on Thursday. Tasca joins fellow driver Ashley Force Hood today at 4 p.m. (ET) for a Ford Racing media teleconference.
IS YOUR RACE STRATEGY DIFFERENT NOW THAT YOU'VE REACHED THE COUNTDOWN? "I don't think our race strategy is different at all. We're starting to peak at the right time. We are coming off that win in Reading, we performed very well in Indianapolis in spite of the fact that the team was posed with some pretty tricky challenges Sunday night with the explosion, but I don't think our strategy changes at all. We're going to just continue down the road that we've been traveling the last couple of races. We've got a very consistent car, and we're a team that's battle tested. If the last two races haven't battle-tested my troops then nothing will. Hopefully, we can get all the explosions behind us and we can focus on racing. The guys have dug down deep and have performed through these difficult times. We've got four races in a row. I don't think the NHRA has ever scheduled four in a row. The next three races, you're going to see the contenders for the championship, and it's our goal to be one of them."
HOW DOES IT FEEL TO BE ONE OF SIX FORD MUSTANGS IN THE COUNTDOWN? "That's 60 percent of the field, and that's a pretty remarkable job for the Ford camp. I'm the second highest-ranked Ford starting this field out and that also speaks volumes for the team, the crew chief and the kind of race car that they have put under me this entire season. There are a lot of good things happening for Ford in the NHRA right now. Next season Ford will be the official car, and six of the10 cars in the Countdown are Ford Mustangs."
THIS THURSDAY YOU ARE UNVEILING THE JDRF-THEMED MOTORCRAFT/QUICK LANE MUSTANG. HAVE YOU SEEN THE CAR YET? "Yes, the car is awesome. This is a contest that has so many dimensions to it. The climax of what we do is to raise money for such a worthwhile cause, but also to let the winning family, certainly child, be able to see the design come to life. I've seen the car finished and I really can't wait to see the expression on the family's face and the child's face that designed this. That's what makes this program so cool because you get to see a lot of designs, it raises a lot of money, and then ultimately we bring a design to life when we race the car. Raising money is a portion of this program, but we also bring awareness to a worthwhile cause. This is the stage of the contest where we are able to raise awareness for juvenile diabetes and really support this cause. The car is certainly the star, and the winner and their family are going to have the pleasure of seeing it run in Charlotte, and good Lord willing, I get to get on camera and share JDRF's message."
