Dixon Top Toyota In Midwest Nationals At Gateway
TORRANCE, Calif., hMay 2, 2010) -- Larry Dixon's two-race win streak was snapped at Gateway International Raceway Sunday, but the two-time Top Fuel champion did advance to the semi-finals as the top Toyota driver and extended his Top Fuel points lead to 41 at the NHRA Full Throttle Series' AAA Midwest Nationals.
The semi-final run marked the fifth time in seven races this season that Dixon advanced at least that far -- and followed his seventh straight top-three qualifying mark on Saturday.
Fellow Toyota-sponsored Top Fuel drivers Antron Brown and Morgan Lucas each advanced to the second round before being eliminated. Brown's Matco Tools/Toyota dragster struggled throughout qualifying to place 16th, but he pulled the upset of the day in defeating fast qualifier Cory McClenathan in round one. Lucas squared off against Dixon in the second round and lost in one of the closest runs on Sunday. Shawn Langdon fell in the first round today.
In Funny Car competition Del Worsham continued a strong run in qualifying on Saturday to place fifth, but wasn't able to get a clean run on Sunday and eventually was eliminated in the second round in his Al-Anabi Racing Toyota Camry Solara. Cruz Pedregon earned his best qualifying performance of the season with a 10th, but lost in the opening round in his Snap-On Tools Toyota Camry Solara.
The NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series is off next weekend before heading to Georgia for the Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga., May 14-16.
- With two more round victories today, Larry Dixon's 10-round winning streak is the longest by any driver in Top Fuel this season.

JLarry Dixon, Al-Anabi Racing Toyota Top Fuel Dragster: "It was another good weekend for the Al-Anabi Racing Team. We didn't make it three wins in a row, but we made it to the semifinals and lost a close race to Tony (Schumacher). We came into this race with a one-point lead, and we'll leave here leading by 41 so it was a good points weekend. We lost this battle, but we increased the Al-Anabi lead in the war."
Morgan Lucas, GEICO Powersports/Lucas Oil Toyota Top Fuel Dragster: "We feel like if we were in the right lane we would have been a little better (in his second round run vs. Larry Dixon). At that point, it was a one-lane racetrack. Larry has a great race team. One of these days we want to get the upper hand on him again like we did last year. We're happily accomplishing the goals we're setting for ourselves on the racetrack. We're learning something every time we start up the car. I'm pleased with our progress right now, even though we did fall back a spot in the points."
Del Worsham, Al-Anabi Racing Toyota Camry Solara Funny Car: "Our Al-Anabi Toyota team made another solid qualifying performance this weekend. Consistency continues to be our problem, but I have all the confidence in our Al-Anabi team, and I know we'll pull it back together. An Al-Anabi win is in our near future."
