Madison, Ill. (June 23) - St. Louis has been a real roller coaster ride for Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance Chevrolet S-10 Pro Stock Truck. After battling mechanical gremlins in Chicago, the RW Performance team felt they had solve their mechanical problems. Whisnant arrived in St. Louis riding the high of an outstanding qualifying effort in Columbus last weekend, and looked to improve his eliminations efforts.
In the second session of qualifying Whisnant would once again experience the electrical problem that plagued him in Chicago.
"When the truck started missing again," said Whisnant, "I thought 'oh no, here we go again'. Thursday night we changed everything electrical on the truck. We could not afford to take a chance, so we just changed everything. In the first session on Friday we made a pretty good run, without any problems. We knew then that we would be all right."
In the last session of qualifying Whisnant would lay down a 7.633 / 175.96 mph to assume the 11th position on the eliminations ladder.
"In the last session we were concentrating on getting off of the bump spot. We were scheduled to run in the good left lane, and knew we had to take advantage of it. It worked and we ended up 11th.=20
"Tomorrow I have Steve Farr again. Last weekend he beat me in the first round in Columbus. I'm not going to let that happen again. Even thought he has lane choice, I am confident that I have enough horsepower under the hood to beat him. All I need is a good light, and I good run.=20
"Tomorrow, against Steve, it's my turn to win. I plan on taking my turn and going a couple rounds tomorrow night. Maybe all the way to the winner circle."
Eliminations at the Fourth Annual Sears Craftsman Nationals will take place on Saturday June 24 at 4:00 PM ET.
