Madison, Ill. (June 23) - Larry Kopp returned to the drivers seat of his Speedco Truck Lube Chevrolet S-10 this weekend at the Fourth Annual Sears Craftsman Nationals in St. Louis, Mo. The driver change was made in an effort to find the mechanical gremlins that have been plaguing the Speedco team for the last two races.

After four sessions of qualifying the best the Speedco team could do was 7.666 / 176.01 mph, which would leave Kopp in the 20th position and on the outside looking in.=20

"I am pretty disappointed," said Kopp. "We changed drivers to try and see if I could get a different perspective on what is going with the truck. We learned a lot this weekend, but a guess we didn't learn it quick enough.=20

"We missed our tune-up in the good session yesterday, and was behind from there on out. We picked up a little in the last session, but we were in the bad lane and it wasn't enough.

"It is disappointing to not qualify, but that doesn't mean we are giving up. We learned a lot this weekend, and I think we can build on that. We will be in Bristol in two weeks ready to race."

The next stop on the NHRA Drag Racing series, is the Winston Show Down in Bristol, Tenn. July 7-9.
