John and Mike look to improve during the second day of qualifying

Mike Coughlin made his Pro Stock Truck debut two years ago at Gateway International Raceway. Coughlin and his JEG'S Chevy S-10 rolled into the water box to begin qualifying.

The truck left the starting line on the aggressive side. He had too much
initial wheel speed. Mike ran a 7.688 at 176.63 mph and ended up in the
No. 14 spot.

"We just got a little too aggressive on the starting line," commented Mike. "I believe that we know where the line is and we will work on not crossing it again this weekend."

John Coughlin followed his brother Mike a couple of pair later. The team made some minor changes to John's truck after learning from Mike's run.

John fired straight down the middle of the groove. He ran a 7.637 at 176.44 mph and landed in the No. 4 position.

"The first run of the weekend is always the hardest to make," explained John. "We have a lot of valuable data from the first run that will help our program throughout the week

During the second session Mike improved, but it wasn't enough to stay in the field of the "quick sixteen." He ran a 7.665 at 176.53 mph and fell to the No. 19 position.

"We will come out swinging tomorrow," stated Mike. "We learned a lot today and will translate that to an improvement tomorrow."

No improvement for John during the second session. He ran a 7.647 at 175.59 mph and slipped down to the No. 11 spot.

"We were looking for a little more during the second session," noted John. "The conditions that we had were very close to what we can expect second round on raceday."

"We were looking for a little more out of our first run," explained John. "We have a lot of valuable data from the first run that will help our program throughout the weekend."
