FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: NHRA Communications (818) 914-4761 'THUNDER IN THE STREETS' MOTORSPORTS EXPO COMING TO ST. LOUIS ST. LOUIS -- The exciting sights and personalities of NHRA Winston Drag Racing will come to downtown St. Louis for the first time during the Western Auto Parts America "Thunder In The Streets" motorsports expo June 25. "Thunder In The Streets" is a street festival with a motorsports theme presented by Western Auto Parts America, the National Hot Rod Association and Gateway International Raceway in nearby Madison, Ill., site of the inaugural NHRA Sears Craftsman Nationals, June 26- 29. The expo, open from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., will take place in Kiener Plaza, bordered by Market Street, Chestnut Street, Seventh Street and Broadway. Admission is free. Nearly 20 interactive displays, NHRA race cars and race-car transporters will be on display for fans. Many top NHRA drivers will sign autographs, including: *Kenny Bernstein, defending NHRA Winston Top Fuel champion in the Budweiser King Dragster. Bernstein is the only driver in NHRA history to win a Top Fuel and Funny Car season championship during his career. He won four consecutive Funny Car titles from 1985-88. *John Force, six-time and defending NHRA Winston Funny Car champion in the Castrol GTX Ford Mustang. A nationwide panel of media selected Force as the 1996 Driver of the Year, the first drag racer to earn the prestigious, annual honor awarded to the best driver in North American motorsports. *Shelly Anderson, driver of the Parts America Dragster, and the quickest and fastest female driver in NHRA history. *Randy Anderson, driver of the Parts America Pontiac Firebird Funny Car, winner of two races this season as a rookie. Randy and Shelly Anderson form the only brother-sister team in major North American motorsports. Bernstein, Force and the Andersons will be the featured guests during a media luncheon at 12:30 p.m. at Mike Shannon's restaurant, located at 100 N. Seventh St. in the Kiener Plaza area. "Thunder In The Streets" continues NHRA's popular expo program.
