FRAM Dragster Winds Up Fourth for Midwest Nationals

MADISON, Ill./St. Louis, May 5, 2007 -- Cory McClenathan and the entire Carrier Boyz Racing FRAM Top Fuel dragster team Saturday put a qualifying exclamation point on a tumultuous two days of preparation for Sunday's O'Reilly Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway.

Rain washed out Friday's two sessions and Saturday's first lap in 5.041 seconds at 298.60 was in danger of not qualifying when McClenathan made his impressive 4.616-second quarter-mile run at 326.08 mph to leap from the bottom of the 16-car ladder up to fourth overall.

He races Hillary (13th, 4.711 at 320.43) in the first round.

"Going into that last session I was thinking about last year when we qualified and then couldn't race on Sunday because our car was hurt so badly in an accident," said McClenathan. "And then to come back this year and have all the drama going on (about the Carrier Boyz selling the team to Scott Griffin) and then to qualify well is very gratifying.

"Wes Cerny (crew chief) and Tony Shortall (assistant crew chief) feel that we have a great race car that can go up and down the track. I'm excited about that myself. I'm happy for all of the guys working on this car and for all of the sponsors.

"There may be drama behind the scenes, but it's all right because we are going to race on Sunday."
