Ohio Residents Win Big at JEGS SPORTSnationals at National Trail Raceway
HEBRON, Ohio -- This weekends amazing weather and outstanding racing has concluded, as over 500 racers from across the nation were condensed into eight JEGS Northern SPORTSnationals winners. Competitors here at National Trail have battled it out since Friday to earn a chance at achieving victory in a very competitive field.
Driving his dragster to victory in the Super Comp class was Don Trasin of Pickerington, Ohio, with a pass of 8.899 seconds, at 170.47 mph. Jack Swan, Gahana, Ohio, gave Trasin a run for his money, and came up just short in the finals. The finals of Super Street also came down to a battle of Ohio residents. In the end Don Moyer would be the second Pickerington, Ohio, resident to find his way to the win. His '67 Camaro, would make a final pass of 10.887 seconds, at 140.02 mph down the ¼ mile which was good enough for the victory.
Gary Linkhorn, who also hails from Ohio; a resident of Cumberland had what it took in the Super Gas class winning with a pass of 9.920 seconds at 153.72 mph. Acton, Mass., resident Ray Sawyer, fell just one round short of the title in his '02 Camaro.
Also taking home the coveted Wally trophy in Comp Eliminator was Robert Bailey out of Wabash, Ind. Bailey powered his dragster over Greg Kamplain, of Brownsburg, Ind., with a pass of 7.243 seconds at 137.86 mph. Jeff Taylor, from Floyds Knobs, Ind. drove his '95 Archieva to the top of the Super Stock class ending the day on a 7.243 second run at 137.86 mph. Rich South was one win away from being the third resident of Pickering, Ohio in the winners circle.
Stock Eliminator came to an exciting conclusion, but in the end Katie Sepanek of Moosic, Pa., took the win light. Her path to the victory was not an easy one as she would have to defeat two past Lucas Oil National Champions to win the class. She took her '72 Chevelle to the finish line at 11.776 seconds at 105.70 mph. defeating Belle Rose, La., resident Kevin Helms. Helms not only a former Lucas Oil National Champion, but was also the JEGS Stock Eliminator winner at the Cajun SPORTSnationals in early April.
Ronnie "The King" Davis stayed true to his name as the Suwanee, Ga., resident became a JEGS Northern SPORTSnational Champion in the Top Sportsman field. Davis ran a 6.897 second, 199.79 mph pass defeating the fouling Tommy Turner of Naples, Fla. The Top Dragster trophy was awarded to Bill Webb, Centerburg, Ohio, after he conquered Ryan Ondrejko of Roslindale, Mass., with a run of 7.375 seconds, 181.11 mph.
In Saturday's action, Charlie Westcott Sr.., of Parma, Mich., took home the winner-take-all $5,000 purse at the Mopar Hemi Challenge here at National Trail Raceway. In other exciting action, James Monroe out of Bloomington, Ind., won top honors in the JEGS Top Dragster Shootout.
