Lucas Oil named Title Sponsor of NHRA Powerade Drag Racing Series event at Maple Grove Raceway.
SONOMA, Calif. (Aug. 5, 2002) - Lucas Oil Products, an industry leader in lubricants and fuel treatments, has signed a multi-year agreement to become the title sponsor of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series event at Maple Grove Raceway, it was announced today by National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) officials.
The Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals will be held Sept. 12-15 at the scenic quarter-mile facility located just east of Philadelphia in Mohnton, Pa. The $1.8 million race, which will be televised by ESPN2, is the 18th of 23 events in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series for 2002.

It is the third NHRA event sponsorship involvement for Lucas Oil Products, also the title sponsor for the recent Lucas Oil NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways, near Seattle. Last season Lucas Oil was the title sponsor of the spring event at Route 66 Raceway near Chicago.

The defending winners of the event include Gary Scelzi in Top Fuel, John Force in Funny Car, Troy Coughlin in Pro Stock and Angelle Savoie in Pro Stock Motorcycle. The event has been held at Maple Grove Raceway since 1985 and annually features close competition, national record performances and championship drama.
In addition, Lucas Oil Products also is the title sponsor for the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series for sportsman competitors and provides primary sponsorship to several teams in that series, including rising star Morgan Lucas in Top Alcohol Dragster, veteran driver Jason Rupert in Alcohol Funny Car and Tom Bayer in Super Comp. Lucas Oil Products is an associate sponsor for several professional category teams, including defending Top Fuel champion Kenny Bernstein and current Top Fuel points leader Larry Dixon. Lucas Oil Products also is active in the NHRA Summit Sport Compact Series as title sponsor for two of the premier events in that national touring series.
