SKOAL RACING BATTLES TOUGH IN CLOSE SEMIFINAL FINISH

Sonoma, CA (July 30, 2007) -- Tommy Johnson Jr. pushed his SKOAL Racing Chevrolet Impala to an incredible semi-final finish at the Infineon Raceway, finishing behind the eventual Funny Car Division winner, John Force, by .001 of a second.

Earlier this week Johnson said, "We made some radical changes so that we can improve our performance for that final push." Johnson and SKOAL Racing started the weekend well by qualifying third with an early run of 4.762 at 320.97 mph on Friday. He maintained that position with a pass of 4.927--the fifth quickest of Saturday's final session.

Looking to gain points for the Countdown to the Championship, Johnson ran 4.913 with a better reaction time than first round opponent Jim Head (4.884), and then pushed the SKOAL Racing Impala to the quickest run of the second round (4.881) and a win over Gary Densham. Johnson matched up with Force seeking entry into a race final for the second time in six events. They battled to the very end as Force bested Johnson with a pass of 4.910 versus Johnson's 4.911.

Johnson currently sits 12th in the POWERade points standings and is inching his way to the top eight in the NHRA Funny Car Division with two more races left before the SKOAL Showdown U. S. Nationals in Indianapolis beginning August 29. Next up for Johnson Jr. is the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, MN (August 9-12) where Johnson is the defending Funny Car champion.
