PRO STOCK TRUCK -- CHEVY S-10
LARRY KOPP, ACCURATE BINDING/ARMA COATINGS CHEVY S-10, points leader in the inaugural Pro Stock Truck series after five events and winner of three races this season, was eliminated in the semifinals on a holeshot advantage by Todd Patterson (Dodge), 7.753/174.14 for Kopp, 7.789/172.77 for Patterson. Kopp maintains his lead in the point standings. Reaction times: .518 for Kopp, .437 for Patterson. Kopps defeated Sondra Sikes and Dale Eaton on his way to the semis.
KOPP: "It's my own fault. I was late and I had no really good reason for it. I was in the mid .40s all weekend, so there was no reason for it. I don't know what happened, I don't know why it did it. I can't say it was any mechanical failure, it was nothing I did, it just happened. We qualified good, made a good showing for Chevrolet and our new sponsor Arma Coatings, who have never seen this kind of race before. We didn't win, but going three rounds is better than no rounds. We will just keep collecting those Winston points en route to the championship, hopefully."
"I just have to do a better job than I did that round. If I had done a better job then we would havewon, and that's the end of the story."
JERRY HAAS, CHEVY TRUCKS CHEVY S-10, who holds the track record in speed here, 175.98 mph, and also the national speed record of 176.70 mph, was eliminated in the second round by Tim Freeman, winner of the last race in St. Louis, on a holeshot advantage: 7.760/175.02 for Haas, 7.808/173.44 for Freeman.
HAAS: "Yesterday we never got to make two runs (one cylinder was not firing in the second run). Not making that last run last night messed us up in qualifying. We ended up in fifth. We could have been one or two because we had top speed. We won the first round today, and we were the fastest truck again today. In the second round we decided to take the left lane. It was a mistake. It shook so hard in second gear, it vibrated my hand and tried to jump out of gear two times. By that time he (Freeman) got ahead of me just enough I couldn't get it back. Our Chevy S-10 likes the right lane here a lot better than the left. It shook so harad it pulled a muscle in my neck."
