All Ohio battle goes to Coughlin with opening round win over Nance.

SONOMA, Calif. - - It's an all Ohio match up at the NHRA FRAM Autolite Nationals -- Larry Nance, from Akron, Ohio, versus Jeg Coughlin, Jr., from Delaware, Ohio.

Nance, driver of the Team Marines Chevrolet Cavalier, qualified 15th and has now qualified for five consecutive NHRA national events in Pro Stock cars. Coughlin qualified second.

The Team Marines Cavalier gained a three hundredth advantage at the light, but on the top end of the Infineon Raceway quarter-mile it was Coughlin breaking the finish line beams first.

Crew chief Taylor Lastor reflected on the weekend, "Overall it was a good weekend. We qualified and in this class that's an accomplishment. In that first round of eliminations we had a starting line advantage but smoked the tires and that probably allowed Coughlin to get around us. I would grade the weekend a success and we'll try and build on that at Brainerd."

The "Western Swing" is over. Larry Nance and Team Marines now take next weekend off before returning to action at the NHRA Rugged Liner Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn. The event will be contested August 15-18.
