SONOMA CA - SUMMIT FastNews - Track records began falling in the Friday evening Pro session and when it was over the late Blaine Johnson's track ET record of 4.614 had fallen. Johnson set the record at this event in 1996. The new track record holder and number one qualifier at the 12th Annual Autolite Nationals is Bob Vandergriff. Vandergriff's record setting run was a quick 4.552/317.49. Later in the session Kenny Bernstein came very close with a 4.559/316.01. That puts him into the second qualifying spot. In Funny Car John Force, the current NHRA points leader, heads up the qualifying field with a run of 5.000/299.00. This is just off his own track record of 4.980. Force's teammate, Tony Pedregon, is now the track speed record holder for the class with his second run stopping the clocks at 307.65 mph. Pedregon is currently qualified number three at 5.003/307.65. Whit Bazemore made two consecutive runs today within .001 seconds of each other and that puts him number two at 5.002/304.94. Bazemore, driver of the Kendell Motor Oil sponsored Camaro was quoted as saying, 'The two runs were good, with the one this afternoon feeling quicker because I think tonight it felt like it spun the tires a little leaving and got out of the groove. I had to fight it.' In the Pro Stock category Jeg Coughlin qualified number one and set a new track ET record of 6.946 seconds. That was combined with a speed of 199.08 mph. In a big surprise Darrell Alderman moved into the second spot with a 6.958/198.32. Allen Johnson, in another Dodge is qualified number three. Federal-Mogul Funny Car is led by Pat Austin, from Tacoma Washington. Austin ran 5.650/255.05 to take the top spot from his Uncle Bucky Austin. Bucky is number two with a 5.726/250.64. In Federal-Mogul Dragster, Rick Henkelman is number one with a 5.461/24935. Results provided by the FastNews Network, courtesy of Summit Racing Equipment ** http://www.summitracing.com/ **
