Connolly Rebounds Saturday at Sonoma; Starts 9th Sunday

SONOMA, Calif., July 26, 2008 -- Dave Connolly and the Charter Communications/LifeLock Pro Stock team were able to relax early Saturday afternoon when the scoreboard at Infineon Raceway displayed a 6.647-second elapsed time at 207.53 mphbecause itput him solidly in the starting line-up for Sunday's FRAM Autolite Nationals.

And it keeps Connolly's Countdown to 1 championship playoff hopes alive.

Connolly was 20th, and last, following Friday's two quarter-mile runs, but he jumped into ninth place with the third-session time Saturday. His first round opponent is Vinnie Deceglie (No. 8, 6.643 at 206.92 mph).

"We are breathing a little easier," Connolly said. "We had a conservative run to make sure we got in the show. We had a new motor and new tune-up and I was finally able to go through all of the gears."

Connolly's second lap of 6.673 seconds at 206.13 in warmer conditions was fifth-quickest of the session. "That felt like it was a pretty good run and it looks like we'll have a good race car for Sunday," he said.

Connolly is 11th in POWERade Series standings, just 26 points out of 10th place. Three more races remain before the top 10 drivers move into the Countdown to 1.

Connolly's Cagnazzi Racing teammates, defending series champion Jeg Coughlin and Ron Krisher, race each other in the first round. Coughlin qualified sixth, 6.636 at 207.30 mph, to Krisher's 6.656 at 207.27 put him 11th.
