CHEVROLET NOTES AND QUOTES AUTOLITE NATIONALS SEARS POINT RACEWAY NHRA WINSTON DRAG RACING SERIES FRIDAY, JULY 24, 1998
PRO STOCK TRUCK -- CHEVY S-10
JOHN LINGENFELTER, SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT CHEVY S-10, grabs his second No. 1 qualifier spot this season, 7.684/175.64. His e.t. is good for a track record. JERRY HAAS, CHEVY TRUCKS CHEVY S-10, records a track record top speed today of 175.74 mph.
Note: Lingenfelter builds the 358 cu. in Chevy V8 Vortec engines that Haas and he run. Kopp and Tim Freeman (Kopp has won three of five races, Freeman has won one), run the splayed-valve Chevy V8 built by legendary Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins.
LINGENFELTER: "Our lucky finally turned. We should have been all right the last run (before the final run) but we broke the transmission. We replaced the transmission. While we had the tranny out we found the rearend was bad and changed the rearend too."
ON THE RIGHT LANE: "I was just so thankful to get down there, I couldn't tell you if there was a bump in the thing."
THIS IS YOUR SECOND NO. 1: "We're gaining momentum, Jerry and I both. We struggled some, the combination is coming around. Jerry has been doing a better job than we have with consistent runs. But we're not getting outpowered, we're at least in the ballpark. Jerry has top speed, we have low e.t. and before Kopp was three to four hundredths quicker than us. We were struggling with that along with some other problems."
ON THE WEATHER: "I think it's going to be the same as today by the looks of the forecast. It should be some of the best running we had all year, except for Houston. Houston had the best weather, and it was a little better track."
