NHRA POWERade Series Fram-Autolite NHRA Nationals in Sonoma, Calif.

Bruce Sarver and the White Cap Toyota Celica Funny Car team continued their quest for their first win of the season this weekend at their "home" track, Infineon Raceway at Sears Point.

On Friday, Sarver's best run of 5.068 seconds at 277.37 mph placed the White Cap Celica in the provisional ninth-place qualifying position. Although Saturday's run of 4.945 sec./301.00 mph was an improvement, Sarver's final qualifying position was 10th overall.

On Sunday, Sarver had the White Cap Celica Funny Car out to a quick lead against Ron Capps' with a terrific 0.509-second reaction time. He lead Capps until the tires broke loose in a cloud of smoke at the 330-foot mark and lost in the first round of eliminations.

Sarver remains in 14th place overall in the NHRA POWERade Funny Car standings. Since taking over the cockpit from Gary Scelzi in May, Sarver has scored 479 points, sixth most in the F/C class. The White Cap Toyota Celica Funny Car has scored 780 combined points with Sarver and Scelzi in its inaugural season, good for seventh overall among the Top Fuel Funny Cars.

The next event is the 21st annual Rugged Liner NHRA Nationals in Brainerd, Minn., Aug. 15-18. Qualifying will be broadcast on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2, and the final round eliminations will be at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
