ANTRON BROWN CARDS PROVISIONAL NO. 2 SPOT FRIDAY AT SONOMA
SONOMA, Calif. (July 16, 2010) - Antron Brown raced his Don Schumacher-owned Matco Tools/U.S. Army dragster to the provisional No. 2 qualifying position Friday at Infineon Raceway.
Brown, who enters the 15th race on the 2010 NHRA schedule ranked fourth in the NHRA Top Fuel standings, opened qualifying at the 23rd annual FRAM-Autolite Nationals with the second quickest pass of the first qualifying session. The defending event champion of the Sonoma race used a tune-up from crew chiefs Brian Corradi and Mark Oswald to power the Matco Tools/U.S. Army car to a lap of 3.863 seconds at 315.86 mph. Only point's leader Larry Dixon was quicker at 3.83-seconds. Friday's second session was canceled due to the track's 10 p.m. curfew. Brown qualified fourth at Infineon Raceway last July.
"That was a bummer cause that would have been a throw down session," Brown said. "I feel bad for the fans and all our Matco Tools distributors and guests who were rooting us on. We had a great cheering section and I'm glad we got to give them one good run today. That 3.86 was a good opening run for our DSR Matco Tools team. I just wish we could have got that night run in. Now we'll come back out on Saturday and try to make two good runs in the heat."
Professional nitro qualifying resumes on Saturday afternoon at Infineon Raceway with sessions scheduled for 12:30 and 3 p.m. (PT). Top Fuel will run first followed by Funny Car. Brown earned the No. 1 qualifying award at the Sonoma race in 2008.
