LAS VEGAS - After several dismal outings this year, defending two-time NHRA Division 4 Champion Shelly Howard hopes to find some better luck at 'The Strip' in Las Vegas for this weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals. Despite being disappointed about the year's slow start, Howard cites the team has been in this position before and finished strong.

Howard, from Tulsa, Okla., plans to put the bad races this year out of her head and focus on the task at hand this weekend.

"You just have to forget about whatever happened in the past, good or bad, and worry about the run at hand," said Howard. "You don't get down, you don't let yourself get overconfident when things are going good, you just have to stay focused. That's one thing my tuner Tom Conway has taught me over the years, you just keep plugging away. So we're going into this weekend's race just like we would for any other race, focused on the task at hand."

"We've had slow starts to years before and finished out just fine," Howard continued. "Of course we would like to win them all, but you normally can't. We'll just try to take the lessons we've learned from the past two races and try to be a better team this weekend."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars. Qualifying will conclude with one final session Saturday afternoon and first round of eliminations will be ran that evening. Final eliminations will conclude the event that evening. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
