Howard ready to bounce back in Houston
BAYTOWN, Texas - Sometimes when it rains, it pours. Such has been the case for defending two-time NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion Shelly Howard this year. She and her team are hoping the clouds will finally part during this weekend's O'Reilly Spring Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Houston Raceway Park.
Howard, from Tulsa, Okla., plans to stay focused this weekend, even if it keeps 'raining.'
"All you can do is just go out there and do your best every time you go to the line, every time the car comes in the pit, and the preparation that goes along with it," said Howard. "We found the problem from Vegas, so there is no reason why we shouldn't get right back to form this weekend. I have complete confidence that Tom Conway and my team lead by Joe Monden will have the car 100% for me this weekend. I just need to focus on my job as the driver."
Despite rumors that say otherwise, Howard will compete her blown car this weekend.
"We'll be in Houston with the blown car," stated Howard. "The A/Fuel car is still not finished, and there really is no 'set' date to bring it out. When it's ready and we feel its competitive, we'll bring it out. It really is unfortunate that we've been pushed to the point where you have to have both combinations to be competitive, in my opinion, however."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations begin Saturday evening, and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
