Fresh off bracket race win, Langdon ready to get one at the pro level

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. – Shawn Langdon is headed to Old Bridge Township Raceway riding a confident wave. The third-year nitro pro spent his Memorial Day weekend competing in a bracket race in Illinois, which proved to be a fruitful outing.

"I went over there to represent Lucas Oil, sign some autographs, and take part in their Saturday night show," Langdon said. "It was a cool race with a good turnout. We ended getting done at about one in the morning. But I won nine rounds that day and won the race so it was well wroth the trip.

"It's a lot of fun to drive my car. I'm under the pressure to make all the calls on the tune-up and set-up, but I like that. So far this year I've got two wins and a runner-up finish bracket racing. It's been great. I'm looking at for other races to do on my off weekends."

With a win under his belt and the Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster running much better, Langdon is feeling good heading into this weekend's NHRA SuperNationals.

"We've squared away a couple of the problems we've been having lately," Langdon said. "We had a little mishap first round at the last race, but after not qualifying in Houston and bouncing back with good qualifying runs in Topeka, we're feeling pretty encouraged."

Langdon said Old Bridge Township Raceway's layout forces drivers to be on their toes much more than normal tracks.

"I love the environment out there," Langdon said. "I love the racetrack, but it's always one of those tracks you go to and you think about the things that have happened there. It brings back a lot of memories and keeps you aware of staying safe."

Langdon currently sits seventh in the NHRA Full Throttle Series Top Fuel points with nine races before the cutoff for the start of the Countdown to the Championship.
