HOUSTON (April 26) – There's nothing like a little taste of success to get racing momentum on your side and Top Fuel pro Shawn Langdon is hoping a recent win at a high dollar bracket race has started the ball rolling for his Lucas Oil/Speedco dragster team in time for this weekend's O'Reilly Auto Parts NHRA Spring Nationals.

"I won a big bracket race at I-22 Dragway in Alabama," Langdon said. "It took eight rounds to win the race. No matter what you win with, it's a confidence booster.

"My reaction time averages haven't been as good as they have been in the past and racing in Alabama really helped me out with that. I'm feeling good."

Langdon and the team are coming off a final-round berth in Charlotte the last they raced in Top Fuel. He said the unique four-lane format was sometimes difficult to gauge, but the time slips tell the true tale.

"We started making good runs toward the end of Charlotte," Langdon said. "Those good runs do give us confidence going into Houston. It doesn't really matter if it's a two-wide or four-wide deal – when you are making good runs, you are making good runs."

Langdon is heading to a Houston racetrack where he's had a lot of success in the past.

"I've always seemed to have a lot of luck at this track," Langdon said. "In Sportsman cars, I've won national events twice there. I've always enjoyed racing there. Now we just need to carry some of that Sportsman luck over to the Lucas Oil dragster."

But for success in the nitro car, Langdon said the factors needed to win never really change.

"We've got a decent running car, but we've struggled lately," Langdon said. "It's starting to come back around for us. We've got to keep pushing and try to get a little quicker here and there. It really all boils down to we can't beat ourselves. We're bound to break through for a win at some point."

On Thursday, Langdon will appear with many other NHRA stars at an autograph session at Houston's Minute Maid Park. The appearance starts at 6:30 p.m. ahead of the baseball game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Houston Astros.
