CHANDLER, Ariz. - Federal Mogul Dragster pilot Sergio Recio will be looking to make a strong showing during this weekend's Division 7 opener at Firebird Raceway just outside of Phoenix.

The El Paso, Texas native debuted a new 2000 Brad Hadman chassis at the end of last year, and hopes to get his new car lined out this weekend.

"Our goal for this weekend is to run a smooth race," said Recio. "We have a new crew, and hopefully before the weekend is out, we can run our best. We are shooting for at least a 5.52 or .53 before the weekend is out."

"We are all still learning," Recio continued. "We have a new car, crew and motors for this season, so hopefully it will all come together. We are excited because it looks like we have a car and team that will perform."

In addition to looking for a strong showing this weekend, Recio plans to hit the NHRA tour, and has high goals for the season as well.

Recio said, "We qualified at a lot of the races we went to last year, but when that old first round comes around, we would like to go on to the second round, and on to the finals. Really, I think we are good enough this year that we can win a race.

Qualifying begins on Saturday with three sessions at 11:30 a.m., 3 p.m., and 5:30 p.m. First round will kick off at 11:30 Sunday morning for the Federal Mogul Dragsters.
