Second straight first-round loss doesn't faze Capps

NAPA Dodge will stay and test Monday at Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (April 7, 2013) - Ron Capps might not be looking forward to returning to Las Vegas for next year's April event in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

Capps and the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger R/T lost in the first round Sunday for the second straight NHRA event and dropped from being tied for first to fifth in points.

Despite the early loss in the NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Capps also didn't qualify at the event a year ago which led to getting Rahn Tobler as his crew chief.

But Capps remains optimistic and the team plans to remain Monday at Las Vegas for testing.

"It's a little frustrating because it's a something very small that we need to find," said Capps.

"I'm still not worried. We have Tobler, (assistant) John Collins and a bunch of smart crew guys on the NAPA team. We're going to get it figured out and it won't be long before we're back on top."

Capps noted the engine in his Don Schumacher Racing Funny Car kept losing a cylinder during qualifying Friday and Saturday, and the same malady hit the Dodge Charger R/T in the first round of eliminations when the team lost to Del Worsham.

"One thing I never have to worry about with our team are the NAPA guys hanging their heads," Capps said. "As soon as we got back to the pit they started to get our NAPA Dodge ready to test on Monday. I never have to be a cheerleader with this team because they know we have a championship-caliber team.

"It might take as a little bit of time to get everything sorted out, but this is the same team and same Dodge than won the Mello Yello series race in February at Phoenix."
