Team Jeg's looks to Seattle for midseason surge.
The 2002 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series campaign is in full swing as Team Jeg's driver's Jeg and Troy Coughlin look for a win in Seattle to spark a midseason charge. Both drivers are optimistic about their chances at Pacific Raceway for good reason. Jeg and Troy have combined for two semifinal and one final round appearances at this race in the past three seasons. Couple that with an ever strengthening in-house engine program, and you may have the recipe for the team's third victory of the season.
"We are well aware of the importance of a strong showing in Seattle," commented Jeg. "Pacific Raceways is a track that we have had a pretty good handle on over the past several years. Hopefully we can get off to a quick start, and get both of our Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier's qualified in the top half of the field. The Seattle race is one of the first in a string of races leading up to the Mac Tools US Nationals. Performing well on the swing is a priority for any team that wants to contend for the championship."
The Lucas Oil Products NHRA Northwest Nationals marks Troy Coughlin's return to action after electing to withdraw from competition in Denver after a sudden loss in the family. The 2002 Topeka winner is looking forward to rolling his Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavalier into the water-box this coming weekend.
"Withdrawing from the Mile High Nationals was actually an easy decision for me," commented Troy. "Family always comes first for all of us, regardless of how committed we are to racing. I am very fortunate to have the support of my family, and I am certainly looking forward to getting back behind the wheel in Seattle. Pacific Raceways has typically been a good track for us. We should certainly have as good an opportunity as anyone to make some noise this coming weekend. A good outing in Seattle can pay big dividends in the points chase."
Jeg and Troy are in the No. 4 and No. 15 positions in the season long POWERade Pro Stock Championship point standings respectively. Both stand to make significant gains in the ultra-competitive class with strong performances in Seattle.
Coverage of the Lucas Oil Products NHRA Northwest Nationals begins on ESPN Saturday, July 27 with two hours of qualifying coverage 8-10 PM. (ET)
