Kent, Wash., July 27, 2002 -- Skoal Racing teammates Ron Capps and Tommy Johnson Jr. came up with their best qualifying runs Saturday and start Sunday's Lucas Oil Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways from eighth and 10 places, respectively.

Capps saved his best run for last, a 4.991-second, 299.13-mph effort that pushed him into eighth place and Johnson wasn't far behind in 10th, with a 5.028 at 287.05 mph, run in the Saturday's first session.

Capps squares off against No. 9 Dale Creasy Jr. (5.026 at 298.60) while Johnson takes on Del Worsham, No. 7 (4.976 at 305.91.

"We had some weird things happen to us mechanically during the weekend, so that 4.99 run was especially good for us," said Capps. "Unfortunately, we hadn't been able to get down the track under power before. The car wanted to run every run. I think we'll be fine for eliminations."

Johnson's lowest time came despite tire spin that caused tire smoke and slowed his run during the last part of the track. "We took some clutch out of it and we drove through the clutch on our last attempt. We should be ready for Del Sunday morning."

Tony Pedregon remained in first place with his 4.848 at 315.19 that was run Friday night and Whit Bazemore was second, 4.859 at 314.39.
