Whisnant hoping to get back on track in Seattle
SEATTLE, Wash. -- Mark Whisnant, driver of the RW Performance / Snap-On Tools Pro Stock Chevrolet Cavalier, has a good record in Seattle. Last year Whisnant qualified Number 1 and posted a runner-up finish at this race. So naturally, Whisnant is looking forward to this weekend 16th annual Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals.
"We did very well here last year, but this is another year," said Whisnant of Stockbridge, Ga. "Lately we have not been able to get our act together, but I feel like this weekend we will have our best chance to show what this car and team can do.
"Last year it felt like we could not do anything wrong here in Seattle. We qualified on the pole and went all the way to the final round. If the tree had not malfunctioned, we would probably have won the race, but right now that is all hindsight.
"We are back to a sea-level situation at this race. We will not have to fight altitude or heat, so that should make it better for all the Pro Stock cars. The best thing we have going for us this weekend is that we have good data on this racetrack. We will go back to our notes to give us a starting point for this race. Then we will go from there.
"If we can qualify for this race, that will be a small victory for this team, and hopefully a sign we are getting back on track."
Qualifying at the 16th annual Carquest Auto Parts NHRA Nationals in Seattle, Wash. will begin on Friday July 25 and continue on Saturday July 26. Eliminations will take place on Sunday July 27 at 11:00 AM PST.
