Cowboy Back On Track In Seattle

RICHFIELD, OH 7/27/04 "The Mopar Parts Mile-High Nationals were definitely a disappointment for our team," admitted Mark "Cowboy" Pawuk after his Summit Racing Pontiac failed to crack the starting field after just two qualifying sessions in Denver. "I'm not making any excuses, because everyone got the same two runs we did. It's just unfortunate that we blew through the clutch on our final attempt, as it looked like it was going to be good enough to get in the show.

"We're a lot happier after what happened in Seattle, though. That's the kind of performance we expect of ourselves. We ran better in each of the first three sessions, and only dropped off in the last attempt when we tried something that didn't work out for us.

"We qualified okay, and finally ran some speed (202.15MPH) in the first round, so maybe we're turning the corner. We had a better Reaction Time than our teammate, Larry Morgan, but he obviously had enough power to run us down and take the win.

"Maybe next time we can turn the tables on Larry and the rest of the field."

Pawuk's superior Reaction Time was nothing new, as he's consistently been better than his opponents all season long, but his car still lacks the punch in needs under the hood to be a true national event contender.

"Everyone always says their people are really working hard, and it's certainly true in our case. We're doing the best we can with the very limited resources we have available, and hopefully, we'll do even better this coming weekend in Sonoma," Pawuk said before leaving for the third and final stop on the West Coast Swing.
