DIXON RACES TO NO. 8 SPOT ON FRIDAY AT SEATTLE

KENT, Wash. (July 21, 2006) Larry Dixon raced his Don "the Snake" Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite dragster to the provisional No. 8 qualifying position Friday at Pacific Raceways to open qualifying at the 19th annual Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals.

The two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion kicked-off qualifying at a hot Pacific Raceways by using a tune-up from the tuning brain trust of Don Bender and Todd Smith to blast the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil dragster to a run of 4.720 seconds at 318.02 mph to card the second quickest run of the first qualifying session. On Friday's second attempt, Dixon's rail overpowered the track and coasted to an 8.777-second elapsed time to place him eighth in the Top Fuel order.

"Our first run on Friday was nice," Dixon said. "Donnie (Bender) and the team made the right adjustments and the car ran what they thought it would and we were second quick of the session. That put us in a good position for the night run, but we obviously spun the tires and weren't able to capitalize."

The 38-time NHRA winner hopes to move higher in the 16-car Top Fuel field when qualifying continues with sessions scheduled for noon and 3 p.m. (PT) on Saturday afternoon at Pacific Raceways. Dixon qualified No. 1 at the Seattle race last year.
